  • 25 March 1989: Took part in the movie “The Hunt for Red October” portraying the USS Ruben James.
  • 9 September - 9 November 1989: Took part in PACEX 89, The largest major naval exercise in the Pacific since the close of World War II.
  • 28 June 2002: Decommissioned at San Diego, CA. - Transferred to Poland, renamed ORP General Thadeuz Kosciusko (273).
  • 23 July 2002: Stricken from the NVR.
